United Airlines Ventures is a fund that allows us to invest in companies who share our vision for the future. We want to improve travel by funding work on new technologies and solutions, while also supporting sustainability, aerospace and tech start-ups.

Sustainable Flight Fund

The Sustainable Flight Fund is a first-of-its-kind investment in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Starting with more than $100 million in investments from United and our partners, the fund will support start-ups working on SAF research, production and technology.

SAF is an alternative to normal jet fuel with reduced lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It’s made from used cooking oil and agricultural waste. In the future, it could be made from household trash. We’ve invested in the future production of over 5 billion gallons of SAF – more than any airline.* In the past 2 years, United Airlines Ventures has invested in start-ups such as Cemvita, Dimensional Energy, and NEXT Renewable Fuels.
