We know that our customers want to travel more sustainably, so we're working within United and with our partners to offer more eco-friendly products and services for your entire journey.
Other United sustainability initiatives
Featuring Cowshed products in our onboard amenity kits
We are now partnering with Cowshed Spa, the premium spa and lifestyle brand of London-based Soho House & Co., to offer award-winning products made from wildcrafted, organic and fairly traded ingredients. Cowshed's line is made from sustainable resources and natural botanicals, and contains no parabens, petrochemicals, sulphates, animal ingredients or artificial fragrance or colors. Customers can find Cowshed products onboard our aircraft, in our premium cabin amenity kits, and in more than a dozen United ClubSM locations and other lounges worldwide.
Improving our facilities
We are investing in making our facilities more energy efficient. Our corporate headquarters in downtown Chicago achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification, and we're installing sustainable design elements like energy-efficient lighting and mechanical systems in several of our United Club locations and airport terminals around the world. The new United terminals in Houston and San Francisco have also achieved LEED certification.
Recycling and responsibly managing waste
We have implemented a continuous-improvement review process to enhance our sustainability, waste reduction and fuel efficiency practices and evaluate the environmental impact of the products we use throughout our operations. Over the past seven years, we've recycled 27.8 million pounds of aluminum cans, paper and plastic from our flights and our facilities.
We are committed to reusing and recycling materials throughout our business. When we replaced the Fly the Friendly Skies banner advertisements displayed at Chicago O'Hare, we partnered with Columbia College Chicago and Re:new to upcycle the fabric into durable, fashionable travel bags.
