Have you ever watched a scene in a movie and thought, “Can a place really be this romantic?” Yeah, me too.
Plan your own escape to these three cities where your favorite rom-com was filmed and find out if love truly is in the air.
A smart, driven female lead with an underdog story, her handsome prince charming… and his judgmental family who is determined to keep them apart – check, check and check! Back in 2018, Crazy Rich Asians premiered as the perfect ‘star-crossed lovers’ romance. It also made history as the first all-Asian cast in a major Hollywood movie since the 90s.
Besides the heartwarming storyline and (obscenely) gorgeous cast, Singapore’s remarkable landscape stood out as its own swoon-worthy character in every scene. Whether going solo or taking a partner, you’ll fall in love on a trip to the “Garden City.”
Romance blooms in these gardens alongside breathtaking floral displays. In the movie, the Garden Rhapsody light and sound show is the backdrop for an extravagant wedding reception. Stroll with someone special through the larger-than-life Supertree Grove and experience this breathtaking show for yourself. Or explore other dreamy attractions, like the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest.
The SkyPark is perfect for panoramic views and dazzling city lights. Here, you’ll see the best of Singapore’s skyline, including the Singapore Flyer and the Marina Bay waterfront. The 57th-floor Observation Deck, with its infinity pool and elegant CÉ LA VI rooftop bar, was the venue for the on-screen couple’s lavish engagement party. Whether taking in the views or cozying up with your partner at the bar, the ambiance is magical and memorable.
Picture this: a woman, secretly still in love with her ex-turned best friend, finds out he’s getting married to someone much younger…and she’s the maid of honor! The stage is set for a classic 90s rom-com with a surprisingly bittersweet (but satisfying) conclusion. Unlike most rom-coms of the time, you’ll be surprised who you’re rooting for in the end—which is a perfect way to describe where My Best Friend’s Wedding takes place: Chicago. Whether you’re doing a staycation with your partner or a galantine’s day with the girls, the so-called “second city” is second to none when it comes to romance.
Before he’s lost to her forever, the leading lady and her best friend take a cruise on the Chicago River. While this last moment is painful for her, the cruise itself is a relaxing, gorgeous experience for visitors. Snuggle up to your loved one while sailing past Chicago’s towering skyscrapers at twilight. Some tours even offer drinks, making it a great date or girls’ night option.
One of the most memorable scenes in the movie is at the karaoke bar Donnie’s. The plan is to humiliate the leading man’s young fiancé, but it backfires as the crowd falls in love with her adorably horrible voice. The karaoke bar formerly on South Wabash Avenue is long gone—but karaoke is still alive and well in Chicago. Take your partner or friends to Brando’s Speakeasy on Dearborn or in Lincoln Park to sing your heart out and enjoy house-crafted cocktails.
Spoilers! The leading man marries his new love (with his former lover’s blessing), and the wedding is a beautiful affair held at Fourth Presbyterian Church on Chicago’s famed Michigan Avenue. A 5-minute walk from this gorgeous landmark is the popular breakfast nook Wildberry, located inside Chicago’s iconic Water Tower Place. Start your day on a sweet note by sharing fluffy pancakes and mimosas.
Scenes on Lake Shore Drive give you a glimpse of dazzling Lake Michigan, but you’ll find a better view from Cindy’s Rooftop bar. Located at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, light pours through the glass atrium, creating a bright, airy ambiance. After dinner, grab a drink from the bar and take your date outside for that spectacular view of the lake, The Bean in Millennium Park and the sleek Jay Pritzker Pavilion.
Released in 2024, The Idea of You instantly stole hearts. The movie draws you in with an unexpected romance between an older woman and a younger man—a lesser-told narrative that is treated with the warmth, humor and lightness reminiscent of early 2000s cinema.
Though the movie is set in California, New York and Europe, filming took place in the beautiful state of Georgia, split between urban Atlanta and dreamy Savannah.
Savannah is reminiscent of old European neighborhoods, with historic homes, cobblestone streets and iconic squares. As the on-screen couple take romantic strolls through "Paris,” you can catch a glimpse of Forsyth Park in the background. The park spans 30 acres, with stunning gardens and paths accentuating the grand centerpiece: Forsyth Fountain. The cascading water and ornate details make it a popular photo (and proposal) spot.
The leading lady is said to live in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, but filming was in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood of Atlanta. And around the corner is the stunning Piedmont Park, a lush green space perfect for romantic picnics or a casual stroll backdropped by the Atlanta skyline. From seasonal festivals to quiet corners for intimate conversations, Piedmont Park can turn any date into something special.
While not shown in the movie, the Olde Pink House is the kind of place our hopelessly romantic lead would’ve loved to bring his new girlfriend. Housed in an 18th-century mansion, this Savannah staple exudes classic Southern elegance and effortless romance. Lean into the soft, candlelit atmosphere and live piano music while enjoying down-south classics like shrimp and grits.
The fictional art gallery was filmed in The Studio , a brightly lit art studio in the Atlanta neighborhood Candler Park. A 3-minute drive from that studio is the hidden gem Kitty Dare. Share a moment over bold Mediterranean dishes and craft cocktails in a chic, intimate setting.
A little movie magic goes a long way when it comes to romance! Relive the cinematic moments by visiting these destinations with the ones you love.
