2024 Premier status: same program requirements, easier to earn PQP
Posted: November 9, 2023
We want to stay loyal to our MileagePlus® members because you’ve remained loyal to us. That’s why the Premier® program requirements will not change in 2024. You will not have to earn more Premier qualifying points (PQP) or take more Premier qualifying flights (PQF) to get status. We’re also making it easier to earn PQP with United MileagePlus credit cards issued by Chase.
Jumpstart your PQP balance
We’re giving current Premier members a head start in 2024 with automatic PQP deposits. All members with full Premier status on February 1, 2024, will get extra PQP added to their account. The number of PQP is based on status level.

Earn Premier status easier through card spend
Here are the changes we’re making in 2024 to help you earn more PQP on United MileagePlus credit cards issued by Chase*:
- Cardmembers will now earn 25 PQP for every $500 in qualifying card spend on eligible MileagePlus credit cards. At this new rate, Cardmembers can earn PQP faster and more frequently through qualifying purchases on their card.
- All card-earned PQP will now count toward each status level, including the PQP-only requirement for Premier 1K® status*.
- We’re increasing the total PQP amount you can earn annually with the United ClubSM Infinite Card. In 2024, you can earn up to 10,000 PQP from qualifying purchases on your United Club Infinite Card, up from 8,000 PQP in 2023.
- We’re removing the annual cap of 15,000 PQP that you can earn from qualifying spend across multiple eligible United MileagePlus credit cards issued by Chase.
Changes for First Hawaiian Bank United Cardmembers
We’re making updates in 2024 to help you earn more PQP on eligible First Hawaiian Bank United® Cards*:
- Cardmembers will now earn 25 PQP for every $500 in qualifying card spend, up to 1,000 PQP per calendar year.
- All card-earned PQP will now count toward each status level, including the PQP-only requirement for Premier 1K status*.
Thank you so much for continuing to fly with us. We hope you enjoy another year of rewarding travel.

Updates to the 2023 MileagePlus Premier program
Posted: November 8, 2022
These changes to our 2023 MileagePlus® Premier® program give you more opportunities to achieve Premier status and allow us to provide more value and benefits to all members.
Premier status qualification requirements
Whether you travel hundreds of miles each week, or a few thousand miles multiple times a year, we’re creating an even better MileagePlus Premier program designed to provide valuable benefits for all Premier members. Our 2023 Premier program gives you more opportunities to achieve status and elevate your travel experience.
Qualification requirements for Premier status
In addition to flying a minimum of 4 flight segments on United or United Express, you’ll need to earn a combination of Premier qualifying flights (PQF) and Premier qualifying points (PQP) or a certain number of PQP to qualify for each Premier status level through January 31, 2025, based on your activity between January 1 and December 31, 2023.
Premier status | PQF + PQP | PQP only |
---|---|---|
Premier Silver | 12 PQF + 4,000 PQP | 5,000 PQP |
Premier Gold | 24 PQF + 8,000 PQP | 10,000 PQP |
Premier Platinum | 36 PQF + 12,000 PQP | 15,000 PQP |
Premier 1K® | 54 PQF + 18,000 PQP | 24,000 PQP |
PQF = Premier qualifying flights | PQP = Premier qualifying points
New features and changes to the MileagePlus Premier program in 2023
For the past two years, we adjusted our MileagePlus Premier program requirements to reflect the frequency of travel during uncertain times. With travel now in full swing, our standard requirements are returning. But we are giving you a boost and adding new qualifying activities to our 2023 MileagePlus Premier program.
Jumpstart your PQP balance
We’re giving you a head start on your status goals to make retaining or upgrading status easier. In early 2023, we will automatically deposit PQP into MileagePlus accounts based on the 2023 Premier status you reached at the end of 2022. All members with Premier status as of February 1, 2023, except for those that hold Trial status, will receive PQP deposits applied to their 2023 balances, according to their status level. Eligible members will enjoy this head start toward status in 2024 as well.

Qualifying for award tickets
An exciting change we are making in 2023 is that when you use MileagePlus miles for award flights operated by United or United Express, you are now eligible to earn Premier qualifying credits. Eligible award flights will help you achieve status with 1 PQP earned per 100 miles redeemed, as well as 1 PQF earned per United or United Express flight. PQP and PQF from qualifying award flights will count toward earning all status levels, whether through both PQF and PQP or PQP only thresholds. PQP from award flights will also count towards earning incremental PlusPoints for eligible members.
Increased credit card PQP caps
For 2023, the maximum PQP able to be earned for card spend will double for the United Quest℠ card from 3,000 to 6,000 PQP and for the United Club℠ Infinite℠ card from 4,000 to 8,000 PQP. Eligible United℠ MileagePlus Chase Cardmembers will continue to earn 500 PQP per $12,000 spent. The maximum number of PQP that can be earned on eligible card spend in a calendar year across multiple credit cards has increased from 5,000 PQP to 15,000 PQP, making it even easier to reach Premier status goals through card spend.*
Learn moreAward ticket redeposit fee removal
All redeposit fees associated with canceling award travel have been removed, so you have more choice and control over managing plans. United is committed to meeting customer expectations by providing more flexibility throughout the travel experience.
Earn more PlusPoints
United is the only U.S. global airline that allows you to earn unlimited extra upgrade points after reaching the highest published status level. To align with travel returning to normal levels, Premier 1K members will earn incremental PlusPoints for every 3,000 PQP earned beyond 18,000 PQP (starting at 21,000 PQP) once they have met the published Premier 1K requirements in 2023.
