  • TSA Pre✓® program changes​​

    As of February 2017, TSA will significantly reduce access to TSA Pre✓® expedited screening for non-enrolled travelers. TSA strongly recommends that you enroll in a DHS Trusted Traveler program such as TSA Pre✓, Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI to obtain access to expedited airport security screening.   • Cuba travel on United

    Travel to Cuba on United is available for authorized travelers only  tourism is not permitted. All customers booking travel on United to or from Cuba must certify their eligibility under one of the authorized categories provided. Learn more

  • International travel and the Zika virus

    If you have a ticket for travel to a country affected by the Zika virus (as listed on the CDC website) and you are concerned about your travel, please contact the United Customer Contact Center with questions or to change your reservation. Customers who are advised to avoid the affected regions based on CDC guidance may change their destination or travel date without a change fee or may choose to receive a refund. The new travel date must be within the validity of the ticket. Additional charges may apply if there is a difference in fare for the new itinerary.​ For travel to Singapore, tickets must have been issued on or before September 2, 2016, and for all other international destinations, on or before February 29, 2016.

Travel waivers​

When severe weather or other major events may impact our operations, we sometimes issue travel waivers to allow you to change to alternate flights without paying a change fee. Travel waivers currently in effect are listed below. ​

Flight changes:

  • The change fee and any difference in fare will be waived for new United flights departing between May 24, 2017, and June 30, 2017, as long as travel is rescheduled in the originally ticketed cabin (any fare class) and between the same cities as originally ticketed.
  • For wholly rescheduled travel departing after June 30, 2017, or for a change in departure or destination city, the change fee will be waived, but a difference in fare may apply. Rescheduled travel must be completed within one year from the date when the ticket was issued.

Airport updates​​​

Payment transactions at airports

United continues to introduce new technology in support of a faster and more efficient travel experience. As part of these efforts, the United check-in counters and kiosks at some of the airports we serve no longer accept cash as a form of payment.

Buenos Aires terminal change for departing customers

Due to terminal construction, customers departing from Buenos Aires airport (EZE) on May 15-21 should go to Terminal C instead of Terminal A. Customers will be able to check in at counters 207-212 in Terminal C.

Houston Intercontinental: New United ClubSM location

We're excited to announce the opening of a new United Club location on May 11 in Terminal C, near Gate C1. Learn more about United Club locations

Lafayette, Louisiana airport processing times

We recommend that customers departing from Lafayette (LFT) allow extra time for check-in and security screening. Airport check-in counters open at 3:30 a.m. and TSA security checkpoints open at 3 a.m.

Los Angeles terminal renovation project

United is working on a multi-year renovation project to refresh and update LAX Terminal 7, Concourses 7 and 8, and construction is underway and a portion of the lobby is closed for remodeling. If you're traveling through LAX, please allow for extra time at the airport. We recommend that you check in through or the United app, if possible, to avoid delays. Additionally, please allow extra time for bag drop off and security screening. Learn about the LAX enhancements

New York LaGuardia renovation and traffic information

Due to traffic congestion caused by ongoing renovations at LaGuardia, we recommend that travelers allow extra time to arrive at the airport. During peak travel periods, customers should plan to arrive at LaGuardia and check in one hour before their flight's scheduled departure. Please visit for real-time information.

New York/Newark check-in and security information

In Terminal A, United check-in counters are located on the upper level. In Terminal C, United Economy® check-in is located on Level 2, and Premier Access® check-in is located on Level 3. Customers traveling in United Polaris℠ first class should go to Level 3, Door 4 and take the escalator to the C-2 checkpoint for check-in. Learn about the changes we're making at Newark

New York/Newark: New United ClubSM pop-up location

A pop-up United Club location has opened in Terminal C, near Gate C124. This location offers beer and wine as well as a small selection of dining options. Learn more about United Club locations

San Francisco runway construction

Customers traveling through San Francisco International (SFO) may experience flight delays and gate changes through the summer due to runway construction work. We encourage you to check your flight status and gate number for any changes, and allow extra time for any flight connections. For more information, please visit FlySFO.
