  • TSA Pre✓® program changes​​

    As of February 2017, TSA will significantly reduce access to TSA Pre✓® expedited screening for non-enrolled travelers. TSA strongly recommends that you enroll in a DHS Trusted Traveler program such as TSA Pre✓, Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI to obtain access to expedited airport security screening.   • Cuba travel on United

    Travel to Cuba on United is available for authorized travelers only  tourism is not permitted. All customers booking travel on United to or from Cuba must certify their eligibility under one of the authorized categories provided. Learn more

  • International travel and the Zika virus

    If you have a ticket for travel to a country affected by the Zika virus (as listed on the CDC website) and you are concerned about your travel, please contact the United Customer Contact Center with questions or to change your reservation. Customers who are advised to avoid the affected regions based on CDC guidance may change their destination or travel date without a change fee or may choose to receive a refund. The new travel date must be within the validity of the ticket. Additional charges may apply if there is a difference in fare for the new itinerary.​ For travel to Singapore, tickets must have been issued on or before September 2, 2016, and for all other international destinations, on or before February 29, 2016.

Travel waivers​

When severe weather or other major events may impact our operations, we sometimes issue travel waivers to allow you to change to alternate flights without paying a change fee.​​

There are currently no travel waivers in effect.​​

Airport updates​​​

Payment transactions at airports

United continues to introduce new technology in support of a faster and more efficient travel experience. As part of these efforts, the United check-in counters and kiosks at some of the airports we serve no longer accept cash as a form of payment.

Aspen airport lobby construction

Due to lobby construction at Aspen airport (ASE), it may take additional time to process checked baggage. Customers with checked baggage must complete check-in and baggage check no less than 45 minutes before departure. We recommend that customers departing from Aspen allow extra time when arriving at the airport.

Cincinnati security checkpoint hours

The security checkpoint at the Cincinnati Airport is open from 3:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily. Please plan to arrive at the airport prior to 9 p.m. – even if your flight is delayed – to make sure that you have enough time to pass through the security checkpoint before it closes. It will not stay open late to accommodate delayed departures, and you will not be able to board your flight.

Dallas/Fort Worth airport: United terminal relocation

As part of the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) airport renovation plan, the United terminal has relocated to a different section of Terminal E through mid-2017. United check-in is now near the E20 terminal entrance, and flights are departing from and arriving at gates E25–E30. If you're traveling through DFW, please allow extra time for check-in, bag drop off, security screening and walking to your gate.

Houghton, Michigan, airport processing times

We recommend that customers departing from Houghton (CMX) allow extra time for check-in and security screening. Airport check-in counters and TSA security checkpoints open at 4 a.m. EST.

Lafayette, Louisiana airport processing times

We recommend that customers departing from Lafayette (LFT) allow extra time for check-in and security screening. Airport check-in counters open at 3:30 a.m. and TSA security checkpoints open at 3 a.m.

Los Angeles terminal renovation project

United is working on a multi-year renovation project to refresh and update LAX Terminal 7, Concourses 7 and 8, and construction is underway and a portion of the lobby is closed for remodeling. If you're traveling through LAX, please allow for extra time at the airport. We recommend that you check in through or the United app, if possible, to avoid delays. New York LaGuardia renovation and traffic information

Due to traffic congestion caused by ongoing renovations at LaGuardia, we recommend that travelers allow extra time to arrive at the airport. During peak travel periods, customers should plan to arrive at LaGuardia and check in one hour before their flight’s scheduled departure. Please visit for real-time information.

New York/Newark check-in and security information

In Terminal A, United check-in counters are located on the upper level. In Terminal C, United Economy® check-in is located on Level 2, and Premier Access® check-in is located on Level 3. Customers traveling in United Polaris℠ first class should go to Level 3, Door 4 and take the escalator to the C-2 checkpoint for check-in. Learn about the changes we're making at Newark

Orlando airport shuttle service disruptions

The Orlando Airport is working on a construction project to update terminal shuttle service. There may be disruptions to service during construction, so please allow additional time and pay attention to airport signs. Uniformed airport ambassadors will also be available for help and directions.

San Francisco runway construction

Customers traveling through San Francisco International (SFO) may experience flight delays and gate changes through the summer due to runway construction work. We encourage you to check your flight status and gate number for any changes, and allow extra time for any flight connections. For more information, please visit FlySFO.

San Francisco terminal information

United flights from San Francisco International (SFO) depart from Terminal 3 and the International Terminal. Ticketing, check-in and baggage drop are located at Terminal 3 for flights within the U.S. and Canada, and at the International Terminal for flights outside of the U.S. and Canada. Customers traveling in United Polaris first class should go to Terminal 3, Door 4 on the departures level to access the United Global Services Reception lobby. Effective December 1, 2016, Premier® members will be able to access the Premier check-in area at Terminal 3, near Doors 3 and 4.

Singapore Changi airport terminal change

United flights at Singapore Changi Airport are now departing from and arriving at Terminal 2. Drop-off is located near entrance 4 on the departures level and check-in is at row 9. For more information, please visit the Changi Airport website.

Tampa International airport pickup and drop-off information

Due to construction at Tampa International Airport (TPA), the United curbside pickup and drop-off area will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. During this time, passengers can be picked up and dropped off at the Short Term Parking Garage, which allows parking less than one hour for free. Tokyo Narita airport check-in location change

United check-in at Tokyo Narita Airport is now located in a different section of Terminal 1. MileagePlus Premier® members and customers traveling in United Polaris business class and United Business® should check in at Zone D for morning flights and Zone E for afternoon and evening flights. United Economy® check-in is now at Zone D. Check-in for customers traveling in United Polaris first class remains at ANA Suite Check-in at Zone Z from 12:30 p.m. to 5:55 p.m. local time. When Zone Z Suite Check-in is closed, please check in at Zone D for morning flights and Zone E for evening flights.

Tucson airport concourse change

As part of the Tucson airport improvement project, United flights are now departing from and arriving at Concourse A. United check-in and baggage claim are also located in Concourse A. For more information, please visit the Tucson Airport's website.​
