  • Travel and the Zika virus

If you have a ticket for travel to a country affected by the Zika virus (as listed on the CDC website) and you are concerned about your travel, please contact the United Customer Contact Center with questions or to change your reservation. Customers who are advised to avoid the affected regions based on CDC guidance may change their destination or travel date without a change fee or may choose to receive a refund if their tickets were issued on or before February 29, 2016. The new travel date must be within the validity of the ticket. Additional charges may apply if there is a difference in fare for the new itinerary.

  • Longer lines at security checkpoints

Procedural changes at TSA checkpoints throughout the United States and its territories may result in longer lines at security checkpoints. Please plan accordingly and allow for extra time at the airport. The TSA advises arriving at the airport two hours before your flight for domestic travel and three hours before for international travel. To save time at security, we encourage you to visit tsa.gov and apply for TSA precheck.

  • Notice for flights departing the European Union, Norway and Switzerland

EU Regulation 261/2004 requires airlines to provide the following notice: If you are denied boarding or if your flight is cancelled or delayed for at least two hours, ask at the check-in counter or boarding gate for the text stating your rights, particularly with regard to compensation and assistance.

Travel waivers

When severe weather or other major events may impact our operations, we sometimes issue travel waivers to allow you to change to alternate flights without paying a change fee.

There are currently no travel waivers in effect.

For additional information about what to do if your travel is affected by a waiver, visit the Flight Delays and Cancellations page.

International travel

Depending on the destination of your international travel plans, there may be specific notices and advisories. For more information, visit the International Travel page.

Airport updates

Payment transactions at airports

United continues to introduce new technology in support of a faster and more efficient travel experience. As part of these efforts, the United check-in counters and kiosks at some of the airports we serve no longer accept cash as a form of payment.

To see payment information for specific airport locations, visit the Accepted Forms of Payment page.

Brussels airport update
