South - A stalled front combines with a warm and humid air mass to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms from the Carolinas and Tennessee to central, north and northwest Texas. Torrential downpours and flooding are possible with heavier showers and thunderstorms. Average rainfall of 1 to 2 inches with high spots of 3 to 5 inches is forecast. Any thunderstorm has the capability of becoming severe producing strong winds and hail, but widespread and organized severe storms should be confined to Texas. Pop-up showers and thunderstorms are also possible across Florida. High temperatures should be mostly in the 80s and 90s. Areas around the southern Appalachians could hold in the upper 70s due to persistent showers and thunderstorms.

Northeast - A cold front sparks showers and thunderstorms throughout the region today. Thunderstorms may become severe producing gusty winds and hail from Connecticut to northeastern West Virginia including New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC. High pressure building in behind the cold front dries the region out for Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures reach the 70s and 80s across the region Tuesday afternoon.

Midwest - High pressure keeps the majority of the region dry today. A cold front does spark scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Ohio Valley and Kentucky with a few severe storms possible. Stronger thunderstorms may contain hail and gusty winds. Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible from extreme southwest South Dakota to west Kansas. Damaging wind gusts, large hail and isolated tornadoes are possible in stronger storms there. High temperatures will be mostly in the 80s across the region. Cooler 70s and even a few upper 60s are forecast around the Great Lakes.

West - Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms develop east of the Rockies from southeast Wyoming to northeast New Mexico. Damaging wind gusts, large hail and isolated tornadoes are possible. Rainfall from the thunderstorms may bring some relief to the wildfire areas. However, the lightning from the storms could spark new fires in the dry vegetation. Other showers and thunderstorms are likely in Washington, Oregon, north Idaho and west Montana. Thunderstorms in northwest Montana may become severe producing strong wind gusts, hail and a few tornadoes. Elsewhere it is expected to remain dry. Morning low clouds and haze slowly burn away to a sunny afternoon along the California coast. Highs will be primarily in the 80s in Montana, Wyoming, south Idaho, north Nevada and California. Highs in the 90s occur in Utah, central Nevada, north Arizona and north New Mexico. Hot in the deserts with highs in a 100 to 115 degree range. Cool highs in the 60s and 70s occur along the coast and throughout Washington and Oregon.
