Electronic ticketing
United Airlines® offers electronic tickets to the majority of our destinations in the U.S. and most international destinations. Once your award is redeemed and your reservations are confirmed, a fax or email receipt is sent.
Express delivery of awards
If you require a paper ticket, express delivery is required for requests within seven days of travel. A fee may apply and must be paid in advance by credit card. Express delivery to a post office box is not permitted.
Paper tickets
A paper ticket is issued only for international travel ineligible for electronic ticketing. For travel on United Airlines, allow 10 days to issue and receive a paper ticket via U.S. mail. Mailing addresses outside the U.S. may require longer mailing times. If you prefer to use a paper ticket for valid electronic ticket itineraries, you can do so for a nonrefundable fee per ticket.
Award ticket service fees
Fees for booking
- There is a per-ticket fee of $25 for booking award tickets through United Reservations.
- There is a fee for award tickets booked less than 21 days prior to departure (see chart below).
Fees for a change or cancellation
- There are fees for some changes and cancellations, so please check the chart below for details. These fees apply to MileagePlus® awards on United, United Express®, Star Alliance® airline partners and other airline partners.
- When requesting a change for more than one ticket, the fee applies to each ticket separately. If two people are traveling together and make a change, for example, there will be a fee for both.
- When flying with one of our Star Alliance partners, changes must be made at least 24 hours before departure.

(1) All fees are per-person on the itinerary.
(2) System conversion is the day the United MileagePlus and Continental OnePass technology systems are converted to a single system. This transition occurred late in the first quarter of 2012.
(3) Fee level is based on the MileagePlus Premier status (when the ticket was issued) of the member whose miles were used to book the award.
