Why am I being prompted to change or verify the name that appears on my MileagePlus account?
To comply with the TSA Secure Flight Program, the information on your flight reservations must exactly match the government-issued ID that you present when traveling. In addition, the name on your MileagePlus account must exactly match the name on your reservations to ensure that you receive mileage credit and other Premier® benefits.
How do I change my name on my account?
Any necessary changes to the name on your MileagePlus account should be requested through the Personal Identification Change Request Form. To ensure the security of your MileagePlus account, significant changes, such as changing your first or last name entirely, will require you to submit identification or verification documents. A simple name change, such as a spelling correction to your name or addition or deletion of a middle name, will not require verification.
What name should I enter in my account?
You should enter your name exactly as it appears on the government-issued identification that you present when traveling.
What if my name differs between my government-issued IDs?
If your name differs between your government-issued IDs, please contact the appropriate government agency to update your documentation.
I'm being prompted to select my identification information from several options, but two or more of the options appear to be exactly the same. What should I do?
First, you should check to make sure that the other details shown (such as gender and date of birth) are exactly the same. If all details are the same, it may be because a traveler ID that was entered when booking a flight exactly matches the MileagePlus information on file. It is also possible that at some point you entered and saved two or more identification options that are identical to each other. If you do have two options that are exactly the same, you may select either one as the "correct" option.
I'm being prompted to select my identification information from several options, but none of the options shown are correct. What should I do?
Please select the option below the listed Traveler IDs, which states that none of the options exactly match your government-issued ID. This will bring up a form where you can enter the correct information.
I'm being prompted to select my identification information from several options, but one of the options shown has a friend or family member's information, not my own. Why is this happening and what should I do?
It is possible that at some point you entered and saved another traveler's information as an alternate ID for yourself in your profile. This ID will be deleted from your profile when you select the correct identification option for yourself from those presented.
What should I do if I manage travel for others or have stored travelers in my MileagePlus account?
Please ensure that you reach out to those for whom you manage travel, or whose information you have stored in your account, to make sure that the information you have stored matches their government-issued IDs.
What happens to my existing reservations if I change the name on my account?
Your existing reservations will still have the name that was used when booking, and you will still be able to check in. If you've updated your information, and the name on your reservation does not match the name on your MileagePlus account as of the time of travel, you may not receive miles for the itinerary. Please save your boarding documents, and check your mileage earning after your travel is complete. Why do you ask for my phone number when I'm enrolling in MileagePlus?
United may use your telephone number to contact you in the event that the email address in your profile is inaccurate.
Why do you ask for my gender and date of birth when I'm enrolling in MileagePlus?
We require your gender and date of birth so that your profile is complete for the purposes of booking flights and traveling, based on TSA Secure Flight requirements.
My account name has changed. Do I need to request a new MileagePlus card?
If you have made a simple name change, such as a spelling correction to your name or addition or deletion of a middle name, it is not necessary to request a new card. If you are a Premier® member and have made a significant name change, such as changing your first or last name entirely, you may request an updated card. Any MileagePlus member may sign in and print a MileagePlus card at any time.
Can I change my email address?
Yes, visit Email Settings and then select Edit to change your email address in all categories that apply. Your primary United email address is the first email to appear in your saved email list and will be the email we will use to contact you about your account or reservations.
Can I use a P.O. Box for my mailing address?
Yes, you can use a P.O. Box as your mailing address.
How do I update my credit card information?
You can add or edit payment information under My Account in the Manage Profile section where you can choose Saved Forms of Payment.
Where do I designate flight search preferences?
The Saved Travelers section of the Manage Profile section of My Account allows you to store information such as seat preferences for future use when you make reservations on united.com. The section titled Preferences will allow you to set your home airport, cabin and search result preferences for future flight searches.
Why should I complete the My Account information?
Completing the My Account profile allows you to arrange travel quickly and easily using your saved preferences.
Do I have to use my MileagePlus number and PIN to access my account?
You will need your MileagePlus number and either your account PIN or password to access your account. Here are some helpful links in case you have forgotten your MileagePlus number, PIN or password.
Where can I locate mileage information?
Your most recent mileage accumulation is listed at the top of the My Account page.
How often is mileage information updated?
Mileage on the website is updated in real-time and is the latest information available from your account. The information is the same as what would be seen by an agent or United representative.
My MileagePlus account mileage is missing mileage activity. What can I do?
To request mileage credit for United-operated flights flown in the last six months, you can request a mileage credit online. To request mileage credit for airline, car, or hotel partners and non-travel partner activity, visit the MileagePlus Contact Information page.
Can I receive credit for trips taken before I had a MileagePlus account?
You may receive mileage credit for United-operated flights taken up to 30 days prior to your enrollment date free of charge. No mileage credit will be given for partner flights. You may also receive mileage credit for United-operated flights taken between 31 days and six months prior to enrollment for a $50 USD service fee. Please contact the MileagePlus Service Center or mail a copy of all ticket receipts and the original boarding passes from your United flight(s) to: MileagePlus Service Center, P.O. Box 1394, Houston, TX 77251-1394.
If the flights taken were more than 30 days prior to your enrollment, please be sure to include your MileagePlus account number and a telephone number along with a credit card number and expiration date. You may also pay by check or money order. Please make your check payable to United Airlines and include the information from one form of identification (driver's license number, passport number, or military ID number). This information should be placed on the top left hand corner of the check. All missing mileage requests must be submitted within six months of flight date.
How do I transfer miles or points from other eligible partners into my MileagePlus account?
Information on transferring miles from hotel, rail and credit card partners can be found on the Buy/Transfer Points or Miles page. Miles earned in the frequent flyer programs of other airlines cannot be transferred to your MileagePlus account. For information on how to use these miles, contact the partner airline.
I have multiple MileagePlus accounts. Can I combine them?
In order to combine accounts, the name and address on each account must match exactly. You may submit a signed request to merge accounts, along with a request for your PIN, in writing to: MileagePlus Service Center, P.O. Box 1394, Houston, TX 77251-1394.
Please include the following information: MileagePlus account and PIN numbers, verification of the address listed on the accounts, current address and phone numbers, signature of the account holder, copy of government-issued identification and the account number you would like to keep.
Is it safe to submit a credit card to united.com?
Yes, your credit card information is secured using advanced Web technology called SSL (Secure Socket Layer) to protect personal information as it travels across the Internet. SSL is an industry-standard technology supported by Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari, Firefox, and other popular Web browsers. United Airlines uses SSL to completely encrypt your credit card data so that it cannot be read by anyone else.
What are email subscriptions?
United offers a number of subscription-based emails, including notification of fare sales, MileagePlus offers and closing stock prices. To unsubscribe, visit your Account Profile and make changes under Email Settings.
