CHICAGO, April 22, 2009 – UAL Corporation (NASDAQ: UAUA), the holding company whose primary subsidiary is United Airlines, today named Mark Schwab, senior vice president-Alliances, International and Regulatory Affairs, and James Mueller, vice president-Pacific. Schwab succeeds Mike Whitaker, who has been named Group CEO – Travel, Technology & General Aviation Services for InterGlobe in New Delhi, India.
Schwab brings more than 30 years of aviation experience to his new role, most recently as vice president-Pacific for United since 2003, where he has been responsible for leading our Asia team in developing our presence – including strong relationships with Star Alliance partners ANA, Air China, Shanghai and Asiana Airlines. Mark previously served as country manager for Mexico and the United Kingdom for United. Previously Schwab was also vice president-International for US Airways and held international posts with American Airlines and Pan American World Airways.
Mueller, who joined United earlier this year leading the Customer Solutions team, assumes responsibility for the company’s Pacific region, where United is the largest U.S. passenger carrier. Prior to United, he spent 15 years with Northwest Airlines, with responsibility in revenue management, pricing, alliances, sales and cargo. During his time at Northwest, Mueller worked in Asia where he was responsible for all commercial, administrative and operational activity in China, Hong Kong, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Guam, plus select functions in Japan.
“Mark brings a depth of experience in international and regulatory affairs, which will serve him well as we continue to build our alliance relationships, and we look forward to Jim leveraging his experience to strengthen our position with customers in Asia,” said John Tague, executive vice president and chief operating officer. “At the same time, we thank Mike for his considerable efforts in growing our international network and building our alliance partnerships, and we wish him well in his new role.”
Schwab will report to Tague, and Mueller will report to Jeff Foland, senior vice president-Sales. Schwab and Mueller will begin transitioning to their new roles immediately.
