United Airlines and American Cancer Society Team up with Customers on Teddy Bear Initiative
CHICAGO, Nov. 19, 2008 – United Airlines and the American Cancer Society® are again teaming up and inviting people from across the country to bring smiles to children undergoing cancer treatment. Mileage or monetary contributions to the American Cancer Society will send Maye I. Hugyou, an adorably, soft GUND® teddy bear that was exclusively designed for this initiative, to a child with cancer.
“The excitement from the kids who received a Kenny Hugyou teddy bear last year was tremendous, and we appreciate the overwhelming response from our customers and employees to make the initiative a success,” says Sonya Jackson, president – United Airlines Foundation. “During difficult economic times, it is more important than ever to support the organizations that deliver critical services to those most in need.”
Following on last year’s successful initiative with Kenny Hugyou, Mileage Plus members may again contribute to the American Cancer Society a minimum of 7,500 Mileage Plus miles, and anyone may make a tax-deductible, minimum contribution of $50 to send the 18-inch, stuffed animal Maye I. HugyouSM, the blue-eyed sister of Kenny Hugyou, to children undergoing cancer treatment.
Contributions are being accepted through December, and Maye I. Hugyou teddy bears are scheduled to be delivered by United employees to hospitals across the country in February 2009. Individuals contributing a minimum of $250 to the American Cancer Society through this initiative will receive their own Maye I. Hugyou in addition to sending one to a child undergoing cancer treatment.
