CHICAGO, July 20, 2004 - To help passengers relax and enjoy their international travels, United Airlines (OTCBB: UALAQ.OB) announced today that it has completed several new enhancements to its overseas flights.

These enhancements include:

  • reconfigured three-cabin 747, 767 and 777 aircraft with up to five more inches of legroom in the United Economy Plus. and seven additional inches of legroom in the United Business®sections;
  • new amenity kits that now include Crabtree & Evelyn's all-natural bath and body care products made exclusively for United First® and United Business customers;
  • enhanced, healthy food choices for United First and United Business customers traveling from Europe and Japan to the U.S. and on intra-Pacific flights; and
  • Doug Frost, a well-regarded wine expert, James Beard Award nominee, newspaper columnist and book author, appointed as wine consultant to help United choose wine for its in-flight wine program.

"Our valued customers rely on United to take them to their destinations safely, comfortably and on-time. Now we are adding enhancements to make their travel experience even more enjoyable," said Martin White, senior vice president - Marketing for United. "With more legroom, improved amenity kits, healthier menus and fine wine selections, our customers can sit back, relax and enjoy their international flight even more than they do today."

More Legroom

To help make customers' flying experience more comfortable, United added more legroom in its United Business and United Economy Plus sections. United Business now offers customers an additional seven inches of legroom, 20 percent more personal space and a relaxing 150-degree seat recline. United Economy Plus now offers customers 34 to 36 inches of pitch versus the industry standard of 31 inches, and 35 percent more personal space. These enhancements are available now on all international aircraft.

New Amenity Kits

As part of its enhancement efforts, United will provide new complimentary amenity kits to its United First and United Business customers.

The new United First amenity kits, packaged in a stylish, take-home nylon CD case, includes Crabtree & Evelyn's luxurious "Nomad" line of face and body lotion, lip balm and Rembrandt toothpaste and mouthwash. The new United Business amenity kits, packaged in a handy, neoprene zip pouch, includes Nomad moisturizing lotion and Rembrandt toothpaste and mints.

Both of these kits will continue to include eye masks, slipper socks, tissues, toothbrush and earplugs. The United First and United Business amenity kits will be available in mid-August; similar amenity kits are currently available in the United Arrivals Lounges.

Healthier Menu

To broaden customer choices and cater to their requests for healthier menu options, United made several new enhancements to its menu this month. On flights from Japan to the U.S., United is now offering United First and United Business passengers new appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts options. These options include several Asian fusion entrees - such as lemon grass chicken with red curry coconut sauce and Hawaiian-style steamed snapper - and larger vegetable portions, less starches and new low-carb alternatives.

On flights from Europe to the U.S., United First customers can now enjoy new hot and cold appetizers, hot salad toppings, entrees and warm desserts. United Business customers are now treated to the same cold appetizers and meal entrees served to United First customers and a choice of ice cream or cheese and fruit for dessert.

Menus on flights from Tokyo and other Pacific locations have also been refreshed and include lighter options such as seafood noodles or Tandoori chicken. Finally, sushi and sandwiches have been updated on shorter intra-Asia flights to Korea.

Wine Consultant Appointment

To further enhance passengers' dining experience, United has named Doug Frost, the highly-regarded wine expert, James Beard Award nominee, newspaper columnist and book author, as its new Wine Consultant. Mr. Frost will help United choose wines for its in-flight beverage program and help educate flight attendants about wine choices for passengers. Mr. Frost is a master sommelier and became America's eighth master of wine in the American Midwest in 1993. He is one of only three people in the world to have achieved both distinctions.
