When you earn 100,000 elite status miles (EQM) or 120 elite status segments (EQS) between Jan 1, 2011, and Dec 31, 2011, you attain 1K® status in the United MileagePlus® program. Paid, qualifying flight miles earned on most published fares on Star Alliance® member flights also count toward elite status.
