As an elite member, you can enjoy Unlimited Domestic Upgrades. This privilege will make your travel and upgrade experience much easier. No certificates. No need to request an upgrade. No limit on the number of complimentary upgrades you can get in a year.
With Unlimited Domestic Upgrades, when you book an eligible domestic ticket on United® or United Express®, we’ll automatically request an upgrade for you and one companion—even when you travel to Hawaii! If an upgrade seat becomes available, it's yours-with our compliments.

All MileagePlus elite members and Continental elite members

The facts

For eligible flights, we’ll automatically request an upgrade for you and one companion traveling on the same reservation (see eligibility).

Upgrade requests will be made for United or United Express flights in the continental U.S., Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Caribbean, Central America and Mexico. (Not available on transcontinental p.s.® flights).

This upgrade is good only on flights operated and marketed by United or United Express (not available on codeshare flights marketed by other airlines, except codeshare Continental marketed flights operated by United)

If your upgrade request is confirmed, you will receive a one-cabin upgrade.

It’s not possible to buy Unlimited Domestic Upgrades. They are a privilege exclusive to elite members. There is no limit on the number of upgrades you can get in a year.

How to get them

Buy an eligible ticket on United or United Express for travel to these destinations. Keep in mind that transcontinental p.s. flights and award tickets are not eligible for this upgrade.

We automatically request an upgrade for you on those flights.

If upgrade seats are available, we will confirm you and your companions in order of priority based on elite status, booking code and time of purchase

Unlimited Domestic Upgrades replace 500-Mile Upgrades
500-Mile Upgrades were discontinued as of Mar. 19, 2010 for elite members and replaced with Unlimited Domestic Upgrades. Premier Associate® and general members can still use their existing upgrades until they expire.
