How do I sign up for the Mileage Plus Choices program? Do I have to register?

To earn miles available for the Mileage Plus Choices program, you must have a Mileage Plus credit card. If you have the card, you will earn miles for your spending on the card automatically. Any eligible card activity, beginning with your January 2006 credit card statement, qualifies.  If you don’t have the card, you can  apply now.

How many miles can I earn with the Mileage Plus Visa?

The number of miles you can earn with the Mileage Plus Visa is limited by the rules of your Mileage Plus credit card agreement that govern the number of miles you can earn with your card.  For example, most Mileage Plus Signature Visa cards limit earning to 10,000 redeemable miles per month up to 60,000 per year. However, for Mileage Plus members with elite status, there is no limit to the number of miles that can be earned.   

Do miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa expire?

Miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa may not expire as long as you earn or redeem miles at least once every 18 months. However, to redeem miles against an eligible purchase for a Mileage Plus credit card statement credit, you must submit the statement credit request within 90 days of the purchase transaction date.

Can I redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa for statement credits against international travel?

Yes, miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa can be redeemed for any air travel booked on united.com with your Mileage Plus credit card, including flights on Star Alliance partners. Mileage accrual and redemption in the Mileage Plus Choices program are not available to residents outside the United States.

If I live outside the United States, can I participate in the Mileage Plus Choices program?

No. Mileage Plus Choices program participation is only available to those whose Mileage Plus credit cards were issued in the United States.

Can United guarantee with the Mileage Plus Choices program that I'll get any available seat, anytime?

As long as united.com is still offering seats on a flight, you can purchase the ticket with your Mileage Plus credit card and redeem for a statement credit against the price of the ticket within 90 days. Read the Mileage Plus Choices program terms and conditions.

What is a statement credit in the Mileage Plus Choices program?

A statement credit is the dollar value credited back to your Mileage Plus credit card account when you redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa at www.united.com/chase.

Can I purchase, transfer or give miles that can be used for Mileage Plus Choices program redemptions?

No, not at this time. Only miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa are available for Choices program redemption.

How do I earn miles available for the Mileage Plus Choices program?

Chase non-credit card activity, such as debit/check card purchases or Home Equity, currently earn traditional Mileage Plus redeemable miles.

Miles earned in the Mileage Plus Choices program are available only for eligible activity rewarded by Chase and are not earned for third-party, partner bonuses associated with use of the Mileage Plus credit card. Miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa will be reflected in your Mileage Plus account within 6-8 weeks after qualifying activity is completed.

Can I use miles I earned through non-credit-card activity for Mileage Plus Choices program redemptions?

No. Only miles earned with a Mileage Plus credit card can be redeemed for the new awards.

Do I earn miles available for the Mileage Plus Choices program for using my Mileage Plus check card?

No. Currently, you can only earn these miles by using a Mileage Plus credit card. You will continue to earn Redeemable Miles toward traditional Mileage Plus awards.

Do I need a new Mileage Plus credit card to earn miles available for the Mileage Plus Choices program?

No. You can continue to use any Mileage Plus credit card to earn miles. These miles can be redeemed for five new awards in the Mileage Plus Choices program, as well as traditional Mileage Plus awards. If you don’t have a card, you can apply online.

Can I earn miles on a ticket I buy for someone else?

If you use your Mileage Plus credit card to purchase tickets for someone else, you earn miles for the purchase that are available for Mileage Plus Choices program redemption.  However, you do not earn miles for segments flown by anyone other than yourself. Only the person flying on the ticket earns flight miles.

Is there a minimum number of miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa that I can redeem for a statement credit?

A minimum of 5,000 miles is required for Mileage Plus Choices program air travel redemption for a statement credit. Redemptions for flights below the minimum dollar redemption will all require 5,000 miles (e.g., a $79 flight will still require 5,000 miles). Therefore, redeeming at lower price levels may result in a lower redemption value for your miles. There is no minimum number of miles to redeem for hotel or car rental redemptions.

Can I redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa for Saver, Standard and Upgrade awards?

Yes, you can redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa for traditional awards, because the miles you earn are also reflected in your total miles balance. However, these miles will be used last and only if necessary to complete such redemptions.

For example:

The miles youve earned through traditional flight and partner activity are deducted first, and if your traditional redeemable miles balance still exceeds the balance of miles you earned through the Mileage Plus Visa, your Choices program balance remains untouched.

To complete the second redemption, it was necessary to redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa to complete the transaction.

When can I redeem miles for a statement credit in the Mileage Plus Choices program?

You can redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa for a Mileage Plus credit card statement credit up to ninety (90) days after the purchase transaction date. Once 90 days have passed, you will no longer be able to redeem miles for a statement credit against that purchase. In the Mileage Plus Choices program, miles can be redeemed for other items, such as Economy Plus annual option or Elite Qualifying Miles, at any time.

Can I redeem miles I earned with the Mileage Plus Visa against a transaction on someone else's credit card activity?

No  miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa are not transferable at this time. Also, the Mileage Plus number associated with the miles being redeemed must match the Mileage Plus number associated with the credit card used for the purchase.

When will the miles I redeem for a statement credit be debited from my account balance?

When you redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa, they are debited from your balance when you submit the redemption request, although it may take anywhere from three to five days for a successfully processed statement credit from that redemption to post to your Mileage Plus credit card account. If the request fails for any reason, you will receive an email with the reason for the failure within 1-2 days, and the miles will be re-deposited into your Mileage Plus account.

When I'm redeeming miles earned with my Mileage Plus Visa, why does my total miles balance go down?

Miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa are reflected in your total redeemable miles balance. Therefore, any redemption will result in a reduction in your total miles balance.

With which car rental companies can I redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa for a statement credit?

Miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa can be redeemed for a statement credit against any car rental from companies listed on united.com/cars. Miles cannot be redeemed against car rental purchases made with companies not listed on this web site. View our car partners.

Can I return a ticket that I redeemed miles for in the Choices program and have the miles refunded to my Mileage Plus account?

No. Miles redeemed for a statement credit for air travel in the Mileage Plus Choices program cannot be returned or re-deposited in your Mileage Plus account. However, you still maintain the statement credit you received on your Mileage Plus Visa for your redemption.

Any changes, cancellations, or refunds are subject to the rules of the airline ticket purchased.

Can I cancel a pre-paid hotel reservation and have any miles that I have already redeemed refunded to my Mileage Plus account?

Miles redeemed for hotel stays cannot be returned or re-deposited in your Mileage Plus account. Any changes, cancellations, or refunds are subject to the rules of your hotel purchase made on united.com.

Mileage Plus and Chase reserve the right to reverse Mileage Plus Choices program redemptions where the original purchase is refunded. Miles used for the Choices program redemption will be re-deposited in your account, and the Choices statement credit will be reversed on your Mileage Plus credit card account. A redemption fee of 5,000 redeemable miles may be deducted from your Mileage Plus account and appear on your statement as an adjustment.

Can I request that the miles I redeem for a car rental be refunded?

Miles redeemed for car rentals in the Mileage Plus Choices program cannot be returned or re-deposited in your Mileage Plus account.

What does "redeem with no blackout dates" mean?

Miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa can be redeemed against any flight, hotel or car rental booked on united.com. There are no blackout dates because as long as there are flights, hotel stays or car rentals available, you can make the purchase with your Mileage Plus credit card and redeem for a statement credit. Remember, to redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa against an eligible purchase for a credit card statement credit, you must submit the statement credit request within 90 days of the purchase transaction date. I can't find my Chase transaction number but want to redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa for an eligible united.com travel purchase. What should I do?

Your transaction number is located on the statement you get in the mail and in the display of your account at Chase Online^sm. If you used your Mileage Plus credit card recently, it may take up to three days for the transactions charge to appear on your credit card account. If you havent signed up for Chase Online, do it today.

Why am I being asked for my email address when I attempt to redeem in the Mileage Plus Choices program?

We will only use your email address to communicate the results of your Mileage Plus Choices program redemption request to you.

The transaction reference number is a unique transaction identifier (23 digits long) on your printed monthly Mileage Plus credit card statement or it is also found on your online statement when you log in at www.chase.com/united. You are required to submit the transaction reference number for a statement credit to be posted against the transaction.

You can redeem miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa toward elite status for up to 5,000 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and 5 Elite Qualifying Segments (EQSs) per year. To redeem miles towards 2007 elite status, miles must be redeemed by December 30, 2006.

When I use my miles earned with the Mileage Plus Visa toward elite status, how long is my status good for?
