TSA Secure Flight program
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Secure Flight program shifts responsibilities for pre-departure watch list matching from individual airlines to the TSA. The mission of the Secure Flight program is to enhance the security of domestic and international commercial air travel through improved watch list matching.
Under the Secure Flight rule, the TSA mandates that air carriers request specific information from passengers booking travel.
How will Secure Flight affect you?
United requests the following information from all customers making a reservation:
- Full name (first, middle name or initial, and last, as it appears on the valid, government-issued photo ID that you will present at the airport)
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Redress number (if applicable)*
*Those who encounter misidentification are invited to apply for redress at www.dhs.gov/trip to help prevent watch list matching misidentifications in the future.
All reservations made on united.com must contain Secure Flight information at the time of booking. To add your Secure Flight information to an existing reservation, log in to My Reservations.
Please note: TSA requires that all reservations contain Secure Flight information a minimum of 72 hours prior to travel or at the time of ticketing, whichever comes first.
Failure to provide your Secure Flight information may result in denial of transportation.
Save your Secure Flight Information
You can save your Secure Flight information by logging in to My Profile. The saved information will be added to your reservation every time you book travel on united.com.
If you book your flight on a website other than united.com, or with a travel agent, you may need to re-enter your Secure Flight information before checking in.

Mileage Plus accounts and Secure Flight
TSA Secure Flight policy requires your airline ticket to match exactly the name on your government-issued ID. If the name on your Mileage Plus account is different, your flights may not credit to your account automatically. Be sure that your Mileage Plus account matches your ID and you'll continue to receive all benefits.
