  1. Valid Carrier: This upgrade may be used only on United® and United Express® flights (only on multi-cabin aircraft), or on any Lufthansa-operated transatlantic flight between the U.S. and Germany and on a connecting Lufthansa-operated flight in conjunction with U.S. transatlantic travel on United or Lufthansa, but not on flights operated by other airlines. Upgrade requests for flights marketed by United or Lufthansa that are operated by United or Lufthansa are permitted. Upgrade requests for flights marketed or operated by any other airline are not permitted (contact Lufthansa for exceptions for Fly America business). Not valid on Lufthansa Business Jet flights operated by PrivatAir.

  2. Valid Routing: This upgrade may be used for a one-way, one-cabin upgrade on United and United Express in or between Region 1 and Region 2. When traveling between regions, the fare rules for Region 2 apply. Stopovers are not permitted. An itinerary with a connection of 12 hours or more is considered a stopover and will require additional upgrades. This upgrade is also valid on any Lufthansa-operated transatlantic flight between the U.S. and Germany and on a connecting Lufthansa-operated flight in conjunction with U.S. transatlantic travel on United or Lufthansa, but not on flights operated by other airlines. For specific region definitions, please refer to #13 below. Two-cabin upgrades are not permitted.

  3. Upgradeable Booking Classes: This upgrade may be used on United Business (J,C) and United Economy booking classes (Y, M, E, H, U, Q, V, W, S, T, K, L) in Region 1, except where the terms and conditions of sale state that the booking class is not eligible for upgrade. In Region 2, this upgrade may be used on United Business (J,C) and United Economy booking classes (Y, B) except where noted below. This upgrade may also be used on any Lufthansa-operated transatlantic flight between the U.S. and Germany and on a connecting Lufthansa-operated flight in conjunction with U.S. transatlantic travel on United or Lufthansa, for J, C, Y or B booking classes only.

  4. Non-Upgradeable Tickets: This upgrade may not be used on any booking classes not specifically listed as upgradeable, including ID, AD and IP industry fares, or on any Mileage Plus® award ticket, Miles & More® award ticket, PerksPlus® award ticket, 2 for 1 tickets issued on the American Express International Airline Program, any non-published or where the contractual language that the upgrade is not permitted. Some Internet sites, such as Priceline.com and Hotwire.com, issue tickets that are not upgradeable. Please check with your Internet site for terms and conditions.

  5. Mileage Plus Accrual: The Mileage Plus or Miles & More miles earned will be based upon the class of service purchased, not the upgraded class of service.

  6. Ticketing: Ticket must be issued in the purchased United/Lufthansa Business class or United/Lufthansa Economy class fare. Ticket will not be reissued using this upgrade.

  7. Request Upgrade: The upgraded United First NF booking class or United Business NC booking class of service may be requested after ticket is issued in the purchased United Business class or United Economy class fare. For Lufthansa-operated flights, the upgrade will be booked in a capacity-controlled booking class after ticket is issued for the purchased Lufthansa Business J, C class or Lufthansa Economy Y or B class fare. If available, the upgraded class will be confirmed. The upgraded United NF/NC booking class or upgraded Lufthansa booking class may not always be available on all flights or on all days of the week when traveling.

  8. Upgrade Processing: For true United-, United Express-, or Lufthansa- operated flights, upgrade may be requested any time after ticketing and this upgrade will be processed based on the availability of capacity-controlled seating. Upgrades are subject to availability.

  9. Upgrade Rules: Multiple upgrades or awards may not be combined to obtain a two-cabin upgrade. For flights that stop en route, the upgrade is only permitted when the upgraded seating is available and confirmed on all portions of the flight.

  10. Changes/Refunds: The rules of the fare purchased determine the changes or refunds that are allowed. Check with United, Lufthansa or a travel professional.

  11. Other Important Notes: Each upgrade may only be used to upgrade one person on a one-way journey. Upgrade has no cash value and cannot be refunded. This upgrade may only be used by the entity to which it was allotted. Unused or expired upgrades will not be replaced. Expiration dates will not be extended. The sale or barter of this upgrade is strictly prohibited. This upgrade is null and void if sold or bartered. No compensation will be provided for downgrades to the paid class on Lufthansa-operated flights. United/Lufthansa reserves the right to terminate a company's participation and cancel their upgrade allotment at any time for any reason. Other restrictions may apply. Terms and conditions are subject to change without notice.

  12. Validity Period: This upgrade is only valid for travel one year from date of issue.  For example, upgrades issued in January 2010 are valid for travel through January 31, 2011.

Region Definitions: United Region 1:  North America (United States - including Hawaii and Alaska, Canada, Mexico), Caribbean, Central America (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala), Bahamas, Bermuda. United Region 2: South America, Europe, Middle East, North Asia, South Asia, Japan, Australia. Lufthansa Region:  Transatlantic between the U.S. and Germany and on a connecting Lufthansa-operated flight.
