Rewarding One Million Miles and Beyond
If you have flown one million, two million or three million miles, or more, in the MileagePlus program, we congratulate you on these incredible milestones.
We are also pleased to announce the details of our new Million Miler program, as part of 2012 MileagePlus. For MileagePlus members who earn one million lifetime miles or more on or after January 1, 2012, you will be rewarded with the status and benefits that correspond to the new Million Miler program. However, because the 2012 Premier status levels and benefits don’t take effect until our system conversion date, you will enjoy 2011 elite status and benefits for a short period.
For MileagePlus members who earned one million lifetime miles or more before December 31, 2011, you will also have the status and benefits of the new Million Miler program. January 1, 2012 will be the final deposit of Systemwide Upgrades and/or Regional Upgrades earned by Million Mile Flyers before December 31, 2011. If you were rewarded with a lifetime lounge membership in the past, you will keep that membership.
New Million Miler Companion Benefit
All Million Milers in the new program will be able to share their lifetime status annually with a spouse or significant other. You can go to mileageplus.com/thanksamillion right now to nominate this special person.
Lifetime Miles
In the past, MileagePlus and OnePass tracked lifetime activity differently: MileagePlus counted only base EQM (actual flight miles on United and United Express), while OnePass counted both base EQM and additional EQM (those earned on partner airlines, or through promotions or credit cards).
To bring everyone to the same starting point, on December 31, 2011, we did a one-time recalibration of MileagePlus lifetime miles balances to include both base EQM and additional EQM. This recalibrated lifetime miles balance will display in your MileagePlus account starting Jan 1, 2012, until system conversion late in the first quarter of 2012.
Then, for all members who have accounts in both programs and the accounts are linked, we have combined the lifetime miles balances to arrive at a new MileagePlus lifetime miles balance, which will be carried forward into the 2012 program. This final, combined lifetime miles balance will display at system conversion, late in the first quarter of 2012.
