How does the Low Fare Guarantee work?

If you purchased your travel at united.com and you find a fare that is at least $10 less on another website on the same day as your purchase date, for the same travel dates, cabin and class of service, as well as the same flight number on United or United Express®, just let us know. We'll make up for it, and then some. It's simple — follow the steps below when comparing fares.
  1. Check to make sure that the lower fare is at least $10 less than the airfare purchased at united.com.
  2. Make sure the lower fare is for exactly the same itinerary in the same cabin and class of service.
  3. Note the website URL, and either print or save a screenshot showing the lower fare.
  4. Submit your claim online.
What if I find a lower fare for my itinerary on united.com?

If you find a lower fare on united.com for the same United itinerary that you have already booked, you may qualify for a credit voucher. You may be able to change a previously purchased ticket (purchased on or after March 20, 2009) to the new fare if:

  • The change is made prior to departure;
  • You do not change the flight, date, origin, destination or stopover points;
  • Reservations are confirmed in an appropriate class of service;
  • All fare rules are met; and
  • The lower fare is not a united.com-only fare.
To change your ticket to the new fare, you may request a credit voucher (for a nonrefundable ticket) or a refund (for a refundable ticket) through My Reservations at united.com or by calling United Reservations at 1-800-UNITED-1 (1-800-864-8331). A $150 administrative fee will be assessed for nonrefundable tickets for travel wholly within the U.S. or Canada. Fees vary for international tickets. Any applicable penalties are retroactive to the new fare ticket.

You'll find the lowest fares available and pay no booking fee when you plan your travel with united.com. Book your low fare getaway today.

Terms and conditions

1. The united.com Low Fare Guarantee applies to customers who make a qualifying airfare purchase on true United or United Express® carriers, and do so through the united.com website on or after February 7, 2005. The offer is not valid for itineraries that include flights marketed or operated by other airlines (including United-marketed /Star Alliance-operated flights and Star Alliance-marketed /United-operated flights).

2. Your claim must be made on the same day on which the ticket is purchased. Claims must be made by filling out an online claim form on united.com. The claim must satisfy all terms and conditions and must be submitted in compliance with the claims processing procedures, all as set out herein. Claims for the Low Fare Guarantee may only be made through the online claim form. No other claims will be accepted. Following submission of a claim, a United customer service representative will contact you via email with the outcome of your claim.

3. Tickets purchased must be the least expensive available on united.com for the chosen itinerary at the time of purchase to be eligible for reissue at a lower price. The guarantee is valid only for published retail fares available on the Internet for the exact same flight(s), travel date(s), and travel itinerary for the same number of passenger(s). Fares must be in the exact same cabin(s) (United First®, United Business® or United Economy®) and carry the exact same fare rules and restrictions. Tickets must be purchased with a credit card and a valid United States billing address. Travel must originate in the 50 United States.

4. United must be able to verify the lower online fare at the time of claim. The confirmed airfare purchased on united.com will be compared to the available airfare on the screen just prior to purchase confirmation of the other website, which must be an accredited distributor of United airfare. A screenshot just prior to the purchase confirmation of the other website must be sent to the Low Fare Guarantee email address on the same day the ticket is purchased. When submitting your screenshot, please include the United confirmation number and your last name in the subject line.

5. The Low Fare Guarantee does not apply to fare differences of less than $10 USD. For qualifying fare differences, United will reissue your ticket and refund the fare difference and provide each passenger within the reservation number with an electronic certificate for 20% off their next ticket purchase. The electronic certificate is redeemable only toward the future purchase of a ticket for travel on United Airlines or United Express® flights sold under the UA code. The certificate is not valid for itineraries that include flights marketed or operated by other airlines (including United-marketed, Star Alliance-operated codeshare flights and Star Alliance-marketed, United- or United Express-operated codeshare flights). The electronic certificate is only valid for use through united.com and is valid one year from date of issue. All terms and conditions listed on the electronic certificate apply to usage. Electronic certificates will not be replaced for any reason.

6. The Low Fare Guarantee does not apply to unpublished fares (tickets with no fare amount stated on the ticket) that are not available to the general public or fares that cannot be purchased on united.com. Fares not available to the general public include but are not limited to corporate, military, government, wholesaler, consolidator or published fares in which the airline carrier is not disclosed at time of ticketing, any ticket obtained via an auction and other discount fares. The Low Fare Guarantee does not apply to package fares, such as airfare sold as part of a travel package, nor does it apply to airfare on another website that has been reduced as a result of promotional discounts, such as dollars-off coupons, loyalty program discounts or fly-free offers. The Low Fare Guarantee does not apply to paper tickets, non-revenue tickets such as Mileage Plus® awards or tickets that you choose to refund.

7. The newly reissued ticket at the lower fare and the 20% off online electronic certificate are the sole and exclusive compensation that will be provided for United’s failure to fulfill our Low Fare Guarantee.

8. United is the final authority on the interpretation of these rules. United Airlines reserves the right to terminate this offer at any time without notice.
