TSA Secure Flight program
| The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced the implementation of the Secure Flight program, which shifts pre-departure watch list matching responsibilities from individual airlines to the TSA. The mission of the Secure Flight program is to enhance the security of domestic and international commercial air travel through the use of improved watch list matching. |

Frequently Asked Questions
|
Under the new Secure Flight Rule, the TSA mandates that air carriers request passengers to provide specific information when making reservations. The required information is known as Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) and is listed below.
- Full name (as it appears on the passenger's non-expired government issued ID)
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Redress number (if one exists)*
*Those who encounter misidentification are invited to apply for Redress at www.dhs.gov/trip to help prevent watch list matching misidentifications in the future.
United Airlines has been working closely with the TSA on Secure Fight and will comply with all government requirements. We are also proactively working with the travel industry (e.g. sales agencies, travel agencies, other airlines, and website service providers) to ensure that information will be collected in all reservations booked. The collected information will be sent to TSA, and TSA will screen passenger data against various security watch lists. By providing this information in advance, most passengers will not experience any difference from the way they traveled before as a result of Secure Flight.
In an effort to meet the timelines set by the TSA, we and other airlines are actively developing industry standards in data collection. We will begin collecting Secure Flight Passenger Data from all customers during booking in the fall of 2009.
