Realignment of award structure FAQs
  1. New award levels will be effective for awards ticketed on and after January 1, 2009.
  2. Award levels on Star Alliance and non-Star partners are also changing - please see revised award charts for full details.
  3. If changes to time, date or city (within the same region) are made after January 1, 2009, to an award ticket booked in 2008 on an affected route, additional miles will not be debited from the Mileage Plus account. Fees may apply.
  4. If changes to cabin or region are made after January 1, 2009, to an award ticket booked in 2008 on an affected route, the ticket will be refunded and the miles recredited. A new ticket will be issued under the new mileage structure. Fees may also apply.
  5. All other terms and conditions apply for United Saver award, Standard awards and partner awards.

Co-pay for United Mileage Upgrade Awards

FAQs
  1. Effective January 12, 2010, a co-pay will be collected when a United Mileage Upgrade Award is requested. United Mileage Upgrade Awards requested prior to the effective date for travel after the effective date will not require a co-pay.
  2. Co-pay will not be assessed on Lufthansa paper upgrades, Systemwide Upgrades, Regional Upgrades or 500-mile Upgrades.
  3. Name on credit card used to charge the co-pay does not have to match the name on the Mileage Plus account or the name of traveler.

Restoration of 500-mile minimum accrual for elite members FAQs
  1. Elite members will earn a minimum of 500 redeemable miles and 500 EQM on United flights flown on or after January 1, 2009.
  2. Accrual on United flights longer than 500 miles is not affected.
  3. Accrual on Star Alliance flights and non-Star partner flights is not affected. Each carrier’s accrual rules still apply.
  4. Class-of-service bonuses: On flights of less than 500 miles, the class-of-service bonus will be awarded to elites in United First or United Business as a percentage of 500 miles (rather than a percentage of actual miles flown).
  5. Elite bonuses: Elite bonuses: On United flights of less than 500 miles, elite bonuses will be awarded as a percentage of 500 miles (rather than a percentage of actual miles flown).
  6. All other terms and conditions for United mileage accrual apply.
  7. Policy change will be applied retroactively for accounts in elite status at any time between July 1, 2008, and December 31, 2008, that have United flights of less 500 miles:
    • Accounts will be updated to reflect the 500-mile minimum for both redeemable miles and Elite Qualifying Miles.
    • The following will be adjusted accordingly: elite bonuses, class-of-service bonuses, promotional mileage bonuses, lifetime United flight miles, and earned upgrades.
    • If recredited flights result in a higher elite status, elite bonuses and earned upgrades will be adjusted accordingly, based on the date the status was earned.
    • Accounts will be updated by December 31, 2008.
