To aid us in accomplishing the environmental goals and objectives we have set, we have developed strong relationships with organizations focused on conservation, climate change and greenhouse gases. We are working with:
Conservation International
Conservation International is dedicated to protecting and preserving natural resources. For example, their Future for Life campaign strives to address a large range of issues affecting everything from specific land areas and species to entire ecosystems. We have had an ongoing partnership with Conservation International since 1998; in 2007, this partnership expanded to include joint efforts on United's development and implementation of environmental responsibility commitments.
Sustainable Travel International (STI)
Sustainable Travel International (STI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education and outreach services that help travelers, travel providers and related organizations support environmental conservation and protect cultural heritage while promoting cross-cultural understanding and economic development.
Carbon Disclosure Project
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an independent not-for-profit organization aimed at facilitating a dialogue between shareholders and corporations to address issues regarding climate change. We joined thousands of other companies in 2007 in participating in CDP, enabling us to share best practices across many industries and to explore the issue of climate change management. It was our second year participating in CDP, and we were the first U.S. carrier to fully participate in the project. We also participated in CDP’s Corporate Supply Chain Program for the first time in 2008.

Gateway Green
To help provide for cleaner air and green space for the residents of a south side Chicago community, United partnered with the Office of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and Gateway Green, a non-profit organization dedicated to greening and beautifying Chicago. Over 30 United employees and their families joined Mayor Daley in April 2008 to plant trees and shrubs in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, and the Mayor reinforced his commitment to build the most environmentally-friendly city in the nation.
Other partners
As is true for all airlines, many aspects of our operations are subject to increasingly stringent international, federal, state and local laws protecting the environment. Through our involvement with several government bodies and trade associations, we are actively tracking environmental laws, regulations and policies throughout the world to ensure full compliance, in addition to improving technologies that would aid in industry environmental efforts.
