Did you know?
There are more than 6,200 United pilots (with the rank of either Captain or First Officer) who command United's fleet of about 460 aircraft, in addition to the hundreds of pilots who are employed directly by our United Express regional flying partners.

Did you know?
Each pilot is trained - or "certified" - on one or more aircraft type. For example, some of our pilots exclusively fly narrowbody aircraft (the Boeing 737s and Airbus 320s) on domestic routes, while others are certified to fly the larger, widebody planes (Boeing 777s and 747s, for example) on both domestic and international flights.

More than 100 hours of classroom training, 40 hours in an FAA-certified flight motion simulator, and 25 to 35 hours of supervised Initial Operating Experience are required before a pilot flies for United.

United Airlines' Flight Training Center, based in Stapleton, Denver, provides industry-leading initial Flight Officer training, recurrent training and transition training to all United Airlines pilots. More than 200 aircraft operators worldwide, including the Air Force One crews, have received instruction from our training professionals.

The Flight Training Center operates 23 state-of-the-art, full-motion flight simulators with a full-time maintenance staff to keep them operating 20 hours per day, 363 days per year.

Our pilots, many of our flight attendants, and maintenance professionals also receive emergency procedures training at the campus, which comprises 610,000 square feet of facility space on 23 acres of land.
