Instructions for recording flight time

Dear Pilot Candidate,

The information below explains how United would like you to record your flight time. It is very important that you record your flight time according to the following directions:

  • Only record what you actually have written in you logbook at the time of this application. Your reported time in your logbook will be compared to what you reported on this application.
  • PIC for this purpose is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls.
  • United only considers pilot time in fixed wing aircraft toward minimum qualifications.
  • Report only the PIC/SIC time since you received your commercial certificate or military wings.
  • Please round time to the nearest hour.
  • For military flight time, do not include a conversion factor

Please review your flight time reporting for accuracy. This information will be verified against your logbooks and/or military flight records.

You will be required to record flight time in two different locations. We recommend you print this sheet out and use it as a worksheet before starting the application.

In the first section, we will ask for specific hours in the following categories. Please round your time to the nearest hour.

At the end of this application you will be provided with a link that opens an additional window to complete the second portion of the application, the Pilot Qualificiations Assessment (flight time, experience, and education). Please make sure that you complete the Pilot Qualifications Assessment. If the window does not open, you will need to disable your pop-up blocker.

Flight time cannot go in more than one category.

Your flight times in the application and the Pilot Qualificiations Assessment (link at the end of the application) must match. (You will use a radio button menu in the assessment and your actual hours must fall within the range you select). If there are gross discrepancies in the recording of your flight times in these two sections, it may impact the processing of your application.

Please do not duplicate your flight time. We realize that all of the time in your logbook may not fit into these categories.

Civilian and military flight times are in completely separate categories and should not be combined together in any category.

Examples are included to help you determine what category your flight time should be recorded in.
