Visit San Francisco

No city in the world manages to combine cosmopolitan sophistication with carefree nonchalance as effortlessly as San Francisco.  Though it occupies less than 50 square miles on the tip of an often-foggy peninsula, the City by the Bay packs every inch of its hill-mounting streets with class and charm.

From the brightly colored Victorian houses and whimsical cable cars rippling over Nob and Russian hills to the vibrant murals and of the Latin influenced Mission district, and from the coast-hugging homes of the posh Marina to the eclectic bars and cafés of Haight-Asbury and Castro, San Francisco has no shortage of alluring neighborhoods to explore.

Downtown, City Hall was modeled largely after Les Invalides in Paris and boasts the fifth largest dome in the world.  Next door, the newly redesigned Asian Art Museum is one of the world's largest museums devoted exclusively to Asian art, and the city's ultra modern public library is an architectural attraction in its own right.

Nearby, Market Street, the city's main arterial boulevard, forms a neat diagonal through the city, stretching from the base of the Twin Peaks—which offer unsurpassed views back over the skyline and the Bay from their lofty green heights—to the newly renovated Ferry Building, with its upscale restaurants, shops, and caviar bar.

Bigger than New York's Central Park, Golden Gate Park is a destination in its own right, with several of the city's most important museums as well as a Japanese Tea Garden, two Dutch windmills, a conservatory, and even a heard of Bison.  Golden Gate Bridge, the international symbol of the city, spans the Bay to the north, linking San Francisco to the Marin Headlands as well as the Sonoma, Napa, and Russian River valleys, which collectively comprise one of the world’s major wine regions.
