What is a "guest" login? Can I still make a purchase without logging in?
Guest login on united.com allows you to make a united.com purchase if you do not have a Mileage Plus account or if you have an account but have not created an online password and profile.
How many passengers can I include on a reservation?
You may include up to 9 passengers in one reservation on united.com. To book additional passengers, just repeat the booking process to create a separate reservation. You may also contact Group reservations for 9+ parties at:

Can I book flights for other people?
Yes. To make a reservation for someone other than yourself, enter their name on the Create Itinerary: Review page, under Enter passenger information . If your Mileage Plus number appears on the next page, remove it or replace it with the passenger s Mileage Plus number.
How do I make a reservation for travel to more than one city?
If your travel will include multiple destinations and/or stopovers, click on the "Multi city" link in the Fare Finder on the homepage. The multi city search page contains two options in the dropdown:
"Depart by air for"
"travel by ground to".
When you are traveling to multiple cities, you will need to indicate if you will 'depart by air' or 'travel by ground to' a particular city. If you are arriving into one city but departing from another city with no flight between the two, then you would select "travel by ground to". Example: You want to arrive in Los Angeles, drive up the coast and depart from San Francisco.
Can I purchase a one-way ticket? Yes. You can begin a search for a one-way ticket from the homepage or from "shop for flights".
From the homepage, fill out the "from" and "to" fields, adjust the radio button from "round-trip" to "one-way".
From the Shop for flights page, adjust the radio button from "Round-trip" to "One-way". This is located at the top of the page.
What if I know the specific flights I want to book? On the homepage, in the "Fare Finder" section, select "Search by Schedule". To find a specific flight, enter the exact dates and time of the flight you are looking for. When flight availability is displayed, you may choose to sort by travel time or departure time .
How do I modify my search during the booking process?
If you wish to revise your search criteria, look for the "Edit Search" feature on the left-hand side of the search results page. You may change the departing airport, dates and times and destination airport, dates and times. If you need to edit additional search criteria, you may click on the 'back' button or click on "Shop for Flights" to start over.
How far in advance can I book a flight?
You are able to book a flight up to 330 days in advance. Flights beyond 330 days cannot be booked through united.com.
Can I book other airlines on united.com?
You are able to book United, United Express, Ted and all Star Alliance carriers on united.com. You will find a drop down list of these carriers on the "Shop for Flights" page in the Airlines section.
Where can I find the list of Star Alliance carriers and other codeshare partners that are sold on united.com? On the Shop for Flights page there is a drop down in the Airlines section which lists these airlines.
How can I display flights operated by a Star Alliance or codeshare partner?
1. From the Home Page, select 'more search options' which directs you to the Shop for Flights page.
2. Type in From, To, Dates of travel, number of passengers
3. Select either search by schedule or search by price for flight display
4. In the 'more search options' under Airlines , access the drop down to select the airline that is needed. Only the airlines that are listed in the other airline drop down can be searched and sold on the site.
If the above option is not chosen, flights offered will display the UA code which maybe operated by a codeshare partner.
Is there an option to search for alternate airports when looking for flights to purchase? When searching for domestic flights there is a check box on the Shop for flights page to search alternate airports . This option is available when searching by price in order to check for lower fares that may be available at neighboring airports.
How do I book a child traveling alone?
If a child between the ages of 5 to 17 will be traveling unaccompanied, you will need to contact United Reservations after completing your reservation. After completing your reservation on united.com, call United Reservations at 1-800-United-1 (1-800-864-8331). This will ensure that essential information is entered into our computer system. Obtain more information regarding unaccompanied minor travel.
How do I book a seat for an infant?
There are two options when traveling with an infant (children under 2 years of age) within the United States, Canada, San Juan and U.S. Virgin Islands:
Lap Child: For travel between these destinations, infants are not required to occupy a seat. However, the reservation must be documented as having an infant in seat. If you decide to fly with an infant in lap, book your reservation on united.com and then contact United Reservations to advise that an infant will be traveling on your itinerary.
Child in seat: For travel between these destinations, you may purchase a seat for an infant at the applicable adult fare. If you decide to purchase a separate seat for your infant, book your reservation on united.com and include your infant in the total passenger count in the dropdown menu when choosing the number of travelers.
For international travel, an infant is required to have a ticket if he or she will be a Lap Child. If a seat for the infant needs to be purchased, Children's Fares are offered based on your destination. Currently, you must call United Reservations to reserve international travel for infants.
Can I apply the value of an unused ticket or travel voucher as credit towards an online ticket purchase?
Currently, we cannot process vouchers for online purchases. To use a travel voucher you would need to call United Reservations at 1-800-United-1 (1-800-864-8331). If the ticket is for future travel dates and has partial or wholly unused value, you may use "Change Itinerary" from the Travel Support tab. Change Itinerary will allow you to price and complete a ticket purchase with your remaining credit. If the ticket is for travel that is in the past, please contact your booking source to complete the exchange.
How do I book a flight using an Electronic Certificate? You may begin your flight search from the Fare Finder on the homepage or the Shop for Flights page. To begin enter information in the From, To, Departure and Return Date, number of passengers and choose to search by schedule. In the electronic certificate or promotion code box is where this number needs to be entered. Remember not have any spaces when entering the number. After all the information has been entered, click the search button.
Are there fees to change my reservation after I purchase?
Before purchasing your ticket, we recommend you view the fare rules. If you purchase a non-refundable ticket, you will be assessed fees to change along with any difference in the new fare. If you purchase a refundable ticket, there are no service charges for changes, though a difference in fare may occur. Please note: Tickets are non-transferable.
I found a ticket at a certain price, but when I tried to purchase it, the fare had changed. Why did this happen?
During the time between your flight search and purchase, the fare may have changed or the fare may have sold out. Airfares change throughout the day, based on demand for the flight.
Can I purchase a ticket on united.com if I need to travel today?
Yes, tickets fortravel today can be purchased up to 2 hours prior to departure.
How do I make a reservation using my Mileage Plus miles?
To make a reservation using your Mileage Plus miles, you need to login with your Mileage Plus number and password. Select the awards link in the top right-hand corner of the flight search page. Perform a search as you normally would and you will see prices listed as mileage costs.
I'm having trouble finding availability. What should I do?
If you receive the message that there are "No qualifying flights found" -- this means that there is no availability on that day, in the timeframe you chose, and for the Award type you chose (Saver or Standard).
The united.com website links directly to the United Air Lines reservation system -- online availability is the same as what you would get if you call. We recommend that you try the following to maximize your search and obtain the results you are looking for:
Change the time of day for your search
Modify your dates to days before or after your preference
Choose midweek travel dates
Choose alternate airports
Change the number of travelers
If you are traveling with a large party, consider reducing the travelers on award tickets
Consider trying again at a later date. Award availability frequently improves within 2 months of your desired travel date.
Can I upgrade an award ticket?
No. Upgrade certificates or mileage upgrades are not accepted for award travel tickets.
Do I earn miles for an award ticket?
No. Award ticket travel does not accrue travel miles towards your account.
Are there fees to change my award ticket reservation dates or destinations?
If you change only your travel dates, you are not assessed a fee.
You will be charged a fee if you change any of the following:
departure city
destination city
connection points (if added or removed)
The minimum charge is $100, and the changes are subject to Award travel availability.

Do you have any emergency or bereavement rates/discounts?
United offers emergency fares for different situations. You cannot obtain these fares on united.com and must call United Reservations at 1-800-United-1 (1-800-864-8331).
What are "Fare Rules"? These are the rules of the fare you have purchased or are prepared to purchase. The following list outlines the common items indicated in the fare rules:

How can I view the fare rules? Click on "Fare Rules" from either the Create Itinerary or Purchase page during the booking process. The "Fare Rules" link is located in the "Fares" column just below the Booking Class and Fare Basis Code for each flight segment of your itinerary. In creating your itinerary two or more fares may have been combined in order to price the flights you have chosen. You may also access fare rules after purchase in My Itineraries . When reading the fare rules, the most restrictive of the fare rules will apply to the entire itinerary.

At this time you may only use electronic coupons that have an e-certificate number on them on united.com. E-certificates are 18-digit numbers beginning in 1016. If you have a paper coupon or a voucher that you wish to use, please call United Reservations at 1-800-United-1 (1-800-864-8331).
Are there fees to change my reservation after I purchase?
Before purchasing your ticket, we recommend you view the fare rules. If you purchase a non-refundable ticket, you will be assessed fees to change along with any costs for differences in the fare. Please note: You cannot change the name on an airline ticket or give the ticket to someone else to use.
When do airfare prices change? Airfares change throughout the day, based on demand for the flight. These changes are monitored closely on united.com. We make every effort to keep our fare displays as current as possible.
What is the united.com Low fare guarantee?
If you purchase your travel at united.com and you find a fare at least $5 less each-way by midnight Central Time on the same day for the same United, United Express or Ted itinerary, we ll give you an electronic certificate totaling $50USD plus the difference in fare (rounded up to the nearest $5 increment).
You must submit a claim form by midnight Central Time on the same day that the ticket was purchased on united.com. The itinerary must also originate within the 50 United States and be on United, United Express or Ted flights only, with purchase through the united.com website completed on or after February 7, 2005. The offer is not valid for flights operated by other airlines such as United marketed code share and Star Alliance flights.
How do I submit a claim for the Low fare guarantee?
Follow these steps to ensure that your claim is submitted properly:
Ensure that the fare is at least $5 less each-way than the airfare purchase on united.com and is the exact same flight, itinerary, cabin and class.
Ensure that you have the complete web address (URL) and take a screen print or print out the page of the other website where you found the lower fare.
Fill out all required fields on the online claim form. The claim form must be submitted by midnight Central time on the same day that the ticket was purchased on united.com.
Note: You do not need to submit your screen print with the claim form. You may be asked for this documentation to verify your claim.
When can I submit a claim?
The claim must be submitted on the same day as your united.com ticket purchase no later than midnight Central Time.
What is a screen print and how do I print one?
A screen print captures the graphic image that appears on your monitor. To print a specific screen, go to the web page you want to print and select "File" and then "Print" from your browser toolbar.
Can I submit a claim by phone?
No. Claims may only be submitted via the online claim form and cannot be processed through any other forms or through any United Airlines or Ted phone numbers.
Once I submit my claim, how soon will United contact me?
A representative of United Airlines will contact you via email by the end of the business day following your claim submission. The representative will advise of the status of your claim when you are contacted.
When can I select my seats?
You are able to select your seating preferences before confirming your purchase. You will not have another opportunity to change your seat selection online until 24 hours before your trip through EasyCheck-in Online.
How can I find out which seats are currently available for a particular flight?
To view a real-time seat map for flights operated by United Air Lines -- click "Select seats" on the final purchase page before completing your purchase.
What happens to my seat if United Air Lines has a schedule change or an equipment change?
You will be re accommodated in a similar seat when possible.
The seat I selected was available when viewing the seat map, but when I book it the seat is no longer available -- why?
The seat is actually available when viewing the seat map, but may be reserved by another passenger prior to completion of your reservation.
What if I have confirmed my flights, but am unable to pre-assign (or reserve) my seats?
United withholds a percentage of seats until the day of departure. This allows our airport personnel to accommodate passenger needs on the day of departure. If you are unable to pre-assign your seat at the time of your booking, you may obtain your assignment upon check-in for your flight. Also, cancellations often occur closer to the day of departure.
Can I request special assistance when making my reservation on united.com?
Yes. When you enter your booking information on the final purchase page, you will have the option to specify special requests. If you have a disability you will be able to select from 4 options that allow you to obtain wheelchair assistance or other assistance.
How can I request an upgrade?
Mileage Plus members may request an E-upgrade online for a united.com ticket purchase. Visit E-upgrades under the Mileage Plus tab after completing your purchase. Upgrades are only available using 500-mile electronic upgrades. For all other upgrade requests, please contact United Reservations after completing your purchase.
Can I use my Mileage Plus miles for an upgrade?
You may redeem your miles for Upgrade Awards on United flights worldwide. Upgrade Awards are valid for one-way travel in the next highest class of service (on two-cabin aircraft, you can upgrade from United Economy to United First ). These awards are not available on all published fares and are subject to capacity controls.
You must purchase your ticket before your upgrade can be issued. Call United Reservations in advance of your flight to request your upgrade. The number of miles required for an upgrade depends on your destination and the fare you purchased. Review the Upgrade award chart for details.
Do I need to be ticketed prior to requesting an upgrade online? Or is the upgrade requested prior to the end of the transaction?
You must be ticketed through united.com in order to request an upgrade online. You may upgrade using 500-mile E-upgrade kits.
Can I check my upgrade balance online?
Yes, Mileage Plus members may check their balance online. Visit E-upgrades under the Mileage Plus tab. You may view your e-upgrade summary, make E-upgrade requests or purchase E-upgrades.
