Can I get a refund for a nonrefundable ticket due to medical reasons?
Many of our fares are nonrefundable, however, if the fare has a medical waiver, medical documentation must be sent to the refund department. Once it is received, it will be reviewed for a refund and processed.
I have a non-refundable ticket and will not be traveling. Can I obtain a refund?
No. If you are holding a nonrefundable ticket that allows changes, you have one year from the ticket's original issue date to reschedule your travel without losing the full value of the ticket (less any applicable change fees).
- For domestic travel, tickets must be reissued and travel completed within one year of the original ticket date.
- For international travel, tickets must be reissued to the same or another international destination, and travel must begin within one year of the original ticket date. A fully unused International ticket may be upgraded to a higher fare. If the request for a International Ticket Exchange is for UA Domestic travel, then the value of the domestic ticket must be equal to or greater value and all travel must be via UA.
If I have purchased a ticket and a new fare is introduced, can I obtain a credit?
Yes, in many cases you may obtain a credit voucher (non-refundable tickets) or refund (refundable tickets) at any United ticket counter or over the phone (E-tickets only) for the difference in fare. A fee will apply for non-refundable tickets purchased for international travel. You can call the United Airlines Reservations Department at 800 UNITED 1. (800 864-8331) When we introduce new fares or reduce a current fare in a particular market, you may change a ticket to the new fare if:
- the change is made prior to departure
- you do not change the flight, date, origin, destination or stopover points
- reservations are confirmed in the appropriate class of service
- all fare restrictions are met
- the lower fare is not a special united.com only fare
Any applicable penalties are retroactive to the new fare ticket.
