U.S.Army and Postal Service pilot "Ham" Lee who later became United's "flyingest pilot" in his time, kept this log book of his World War I flying.

In cold weather, they wore thick clothing, padded helmets, fleece-lined goggles and heavy footwear to keep themselves warm.

Terrain maps and parachutes were their safety equipment, along with rifles for hunting wild game if forced down in a desolate area.
