Exempt from Baggage Fees
Premier members are exempt from first and second checked bag fees for travel within the U.S. and Canada. Additional baggage charges may apply for checking more than two bags or if any bag is overweight or oversized. Up to eight companions who are booked in the same confirmation number as an elite member are allowed two free bags up to 50 lbs each. Minimum flight mileage accrual
Elite members earn a minimum of 500 redeemable miles and 500 EQM on United flights that are less than 500 miles (flown on or after January 1, 2009).
25% Premier mileage bonuses
Elite members at the Premier level will automatically earn a 25% redeemable mileage bonus every time they fly a paid United, United Express® and US Airways flight. This redeemable mileage bonus is also valid on transatlantic Lufthansa flights between the U.S. and Europe. Bonus miles are in addition to credit received for paid miles, based on the origin and destination of flights.
Star Alliance Silver benefits
Premier members also receive Star Alliance Silver benefits when flying on any Star Alliance member. These benefits include:
- Priority reservations waitlist when the flight or eligible fare you want on any Star Alliance member airline is sold out.
- Priority standby at the airport (where allowed by law) for any Star Alliance flight if you are traveling without a confirmed reservation.
Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs)
Miles earned on most paid, published fares on Star Alliance member flights count toward elite status qualification. When you fly on United or United Express on a paid ticket in First Class (F A P), Business Class (C D Z) and Unrestricted Economy (Y B), you can earn a 50% EQM.EQS bonus. So it's easier than ever to retain your Premier membership, or move up to the higher rewards and privileges of Premier Executive status.
Savings and bonus miles from Mileage Plus credit cards
You can earn miles for every purchase you make with the Mileage Plus® Signature Visa. You will have no mileage-earning limit.

Important notes about your Premier membership
Unless otherwise stated, the terms and conditions set forth in the Mileage Plus Program Rules are applicable to the elite program, including rules for mileage accrual, award redemptions and conditions affecting the use of certificates, such as stopovers, open jaws and area of travel.
All Mileage Plus miles earned on United, United Express and Star Alliance partner flights are based on origin and destination of paid flights.
Qualification period
Qualification is required each year, based on paid miles or segments flown between January 1 and December 31. The benefits for 2009 elite status presented here are for members who qualified in the 2008 calendar year or during 2009.
