To improve operational reliability, United retires its last DC-10, ending 29 years of DC-10 service. Two months earlier, United had retired its last DC-10 freighter, ending the all-freighter service it established in 1997. At the height of its DC-10 operations in the late 1980s, United had 55 of the aircraft.
