United history

United names a Boeing 777 (#2825) The Spirit of United in memory of the 18 employees lost during the terrorist attacks Sept. 11, 2001. CEO Jack Creighton calls the gesture "a humble testament to the work they chose and the lives they lived." Creighton also stated, "We are privileged to have the opportunity to remember them in this way. This dedication honors not just those who died, but those who step on board every day and keep their dreams of travel alive. Every flight stands in opposition to terror and honors both their lives and the freedoms we enjoy." United took delivery of the aircraft the previous December, but it had been in storage at Boeing, awaiting seat and video installations. A team of Boeing employees painted the name on the aircraft without charge.
