In 1947, United introduced its own monthly magazine, the Mainliner Traveler, which featured photos of flying celebrities, travel stories, baseball schedules and geography quizzes. Previously, since 1936, United and other carriers had offered passengers AIRLANES, an inflight magazine with articles about each carrier, as well as timetables, short stories and fashions in flight. An annual subscription sold for $2.50. In addition to United, the publication was distributed by American, Braniff, Delta, Eastern, Northwest and Pan Am.
