The first eight stewardesses, four from Chicago and four from San Francisco, all registered nurses, gathered at Cheyenne, Wyo., prior to the stewardess flying experiment that began on May 15, 1930. The group was led by Ellen Church (seated on cushion, center) who helped found the profession.
