One of the most technologically advanced aircraft in United's fleet, the 144-passenger Airbus A320 brought to the industry the highly sophisticated "fly-by-wire" technology that allows wing and tail surfaces to move via electronic signals. The A320s, launched by United in December 1993, were assembled in Toulouse, France, by a consortium of Europe's largest industrial companies, assisted by nearly 500 U.S. manufacturers of aircraft parts and supplies.
