United history
Airline service soared to new heights when United introduced its widebody Boeing 747 Friend Ships on California-Hawaii routes in July 1970. The 342-passenger jumbo jetliner quickly won passenger approval, and versions of the 747 remain a favorite aircraft in United's fleet.
