United history

The De Havilland of World War I was converted in 1920 to fly U.S. mail routes. Powered by a 400h.p. Liberty engine, the plane carried a single pilot and 400 pounds of mail. U.S. mail traveling from coast to coast moved by air during the day and by train at night, taking a total of 78 1/2 hours.
