Star Alliance
- History. The Star Alliance was launched in 1997 by 5 of the world's leading carriers -- Air Canada, Lufthansa, SAS, Thai International and United. Since then, membership has expanded to include a total of 15 carriers, including Air New Zealand, ANA, Ansett Australia, Austrian Airlines, British Midland, Lauda, Mexicana, Singapore Airlines, Tyrolean and Varig.

- Annual passengers. An estimated 296 million.
- Number of planes: More than 2,130.
- Destinations. More than 815 in more than 130 countries.
- Employees: More than 312,000.
